Design Brief 1 - Logo Initial Ideas

When developing the logo design for the brand, we knew we wanted to incorporate sushi iconography within the logo therefore producing a combination logo. So the first thing I designed was a range sushi illustrations based to use within the design process of the logos . I then moved onto looking for a typeface to use for the branding, me and Kira both agreed we wanted something bold and unique for the main logo type to therefore make the logo stand out from the rest of the food trucks at Leeds Trinity. Once trying out various different typeface we settled on using ‘beastly’ as it was bold and very unique with its mixture of thicks and thins within each of the letter forms as well as the oversized serifs. I then moved onto mixing the typeface and illustrations and experimenting with different layouts which is shown in photo . I tried incorporating the type into the illustrations as well as having the type stand beside the sushi illustrations. After I was happy with the logos I produced I then came together with Kira so we could identify which logos were most successful and the one we should use. We selected six different logos  and went through why we liked each one and if it would work. Once we had done this for all the logos we found that the 5th logo was the most successful and the one we wanted to use.

Task
Produce 3 Instagram squares to promote a virtual event 

Idea
Our idea was to produce 3 posts that promote 3 different virtual events you can do with a mate. We want to collab with 3 different brands which can offer the people a discount which is an incentive to try it.

The 3 brands we are going to collab with are netlfix (watch a film), hello fresh (cook together) and house party (quiz's with friends).


We began by looking at the calm instagram and identify things which they use in their branding and stuff.


We liked how they added a block colour behind the photo as well as a gradient map their photos too 2 colours. We also like the type they have used as well the way they use fulled and outlined type. The final thing we found was that they used an arrow to direct the attention of the users.

We would like to incorporate all these into our designs to make it seem cohesive with the already existing branding.


Work
To start out we all did our own designs for netflix to incorporate some of the elements we found when exploring their instagram. After producing our own designs we each showed what we designed and we said what we liked about it and at the end incorporated all these ideas into one.

We looked at these as a set and found that the middle one (designed by Natasha) didn't really fit with the other ones. So I sent her the file so she could make it more cohesive with the other posts.


Above are the final designs we produced and presented to the group.


Crit
The feedback we received was that the 'datewithamate' was sometimes hard to read so that need to be improved. As well as we could try and incorporate the circles to together so that all the posts connect to one another. Also the contrast between the dark blue and white is too much and we should experiment with using a different colour for the white.


Above are the final design we have produced after doing the improvements suggested in our crit. We made it so the 
'datewithamate' is made more prominent and easier to see. As well as connecting all the posts to one another by merging the circles to one another. The last thing we improved on was to change the colour of the white circles to a darker blue to reduce the contrast within the design and therefore make it easier on the user's eyes.

We found it really hard to just come up with a name out of no where. So me and Kira went on a name generation website and started to filter through the suggestions. Below will be list of potential names from this method:
