Design Brief 2 - Letters Review

Above are all the letters I produced as part of our letter-a-day brief. As you can see I have not done all the letters and have missed a fair few, however, Jack told me he had completed all of his. This was not fair on Jack as I didn't pull my own weight on the brief and I should have completed them all. Overall I think the letters I produced were successful however some were more than others, also limiting myself to a strict colour palette did help overall when combining the typeface together. However during the designing stage I felt like this held me back at times with how far I was willing to push the design of the letterform. During the last few letters of the day I was falling behind so I had to do a few letters a day for the last few days to ensure I got them done however this still didn't work as I didn't finish all the letters for the deadline me and Jack set. Again this was fair on Jack as I didn't produce the best work I could for some of the letters and it is shown in the final design which I produced.

Throughout the course of designing the letters above is the letter which I thought were the most successful when compared to the prompt which was given for the letter. When looking back these were the letterforms which I enjoyed designing the most and would like to explore further to developing a full typeface within them 5 specific styles in my own time.

I started out by sketching out my ideas on the Ipad in procreate, once I was happy with the letters I have produced. I then moved onto identifying which letterform was the most successful. After I had done this I then brought it into illustrator again to clean up the letterform. As I found it to be a lot easier to do this on illustrator rather than on the iPad when doing the letter a.

I applied the same process which is shown in the letterform 'a' 'c' and 'd' blogs.

Initial Ideas

I started out by sketching out my random shapes which filled up the screen, once I was happy with the shapes. I then numbered each of them and then asked google to give me random number between them and then I did this three times to get 3 sepereate shapes. Once I got the shapes I then started to arrange them in different ways to produce the letter from K. I found a letterform which was was the most successful. Then brought it into illustrator again to clean up the letterform. As I found it to be a lot easier to do this on illustrator rather than on the iPad when doing the letter a.
