Design Brief 5 - Applying Cover to Template
OUGD603
______________________________________________________
After producing the front and back of the book cover I then placed it on the template provided by penguin. I realised I forgot about the design for the spine of the book, so I tried adding the type I produced for the back as the spine only needed the title and the author. However at such a small scale, this did work, so I went back into the Ipad and wrote out the title in a stacked format so It would fit on the spine of the book.
Then I took a step back and found the design to be very plain on the spine and back of the book cover. So I used a drawing tablet and began to sketch all over the design to make the cover more interesting and hectic in the same way life is. After experimenting with different sketches over the cover I settled on the design in the photo. I found that this design added to the design as well as drawing more attending to the main information, therefore creating hierarchy within my book cover. The lines on the spine draw the reader's eye to the title of the book whereas the book on the back of the cover surrounds the quotes which many people read before buying a book.
