Clothing Fabrics

Clothing can be made up of various different materials types however it is estimated that 65% of all the fibres in the fashion industry are made from synthetic materials. The synthetic fibres are sourced from crude oil which is a fossil fuel, the synthetic fibres used are mainly polyester, but also nylon, acrylic, polypropylene and elastane. Other common fabric choices for clothing include cotton, cellulosic fibres/viscose, wool, silk, leather and bast fibres.

Clothing Dyes

After researching into different fabrics which could be implement into clothing item it then lead me into researching dyes for the clothing fabrics. There are again multipul different common dye types, these being acid dyes, azoic dyes, basic dyes/catonic dyes, disperse dyes, mordant dyes, reactive/fibre reactive dyes, sulfer dyes, vat dyes as well as natural dyes.

During my research I also found that different types of fabrics and materials for clothing item may be harder than other to extract and make into he raw fabric. This then therefore means it takes more money to get the raw material and then that results in the price of the clothing item to go up. The same can be said for the dyes within the clothing some are more rarer than others and take more money to extract again results in the price of the clothing item to go up. I also found that some brands take advantage of this and price their clothing higher if the quality is better however I also found that prices of clothing can also depends on what brand it is. A company could produce the same t-shirt as a cheaper brand but price it higher as it is branded, your only paying for the name.
