EP - Briefing

Extended Practice - Briefing

  • Submission deadline- 05/05/21 11AM
  • Focuses on the synthesis of self-initiated practical, theoretical and professional concerns within the context of contemporary graphic design
  • Not every brief is going to hit every learning outcome, but rather they should collectively hit every learning outcome
  • Approach and document the development of the brief with confidence- act as though you know what you're doing

Design Practice

  • Identify, negotiate and resolve a series of design brief which are appropriate to your individual design practise
  • Include a range of briefs

Project Journal (via blog)

  • Documentation of the Extended Practice module
  • Including, but not limited to, evaluation and reflection of progress, documentation of research

Submission Requirements

  1. A series of design briefs that are appropriate to your individual design practise
  2. Evidence of project management, including a statement of intent, design brief etc. Evaluation of briefs- management of time, what could be improved, what is good/bad and why etc. (personal reflection!)
  3. A series of design boards
  4. The OUGD603 blog- label correctly, and a visible date

  • One live brief
  • One collaboration (internal)
  • One collaboration (external)
  • One research-led

Questions to Consider

Research

  • What is your problem?
  • What area are you focusing on?
  • Is there a bigger context?
  • What is the form and amount of research to consider?
  • What is your timescale?
  • What is achievable with the amount of time you have?
  • What is the focus of each brief?

Initial Ideas

  • What are you identifying as areas worth developing further?
  • What are you trying to communicate?
  • Which audience have you identified?
  • What is the problem?
  • How can you solve it?
  • Does it require further research?

Development

  • Have you moved on from your initial starting point?
  • What methods are you using to document this development?
  • What processes will you need to use to develop your work?
  • How will you know if it is working?

Areas of Focus

  • Methods of research?
  • Methods to evaluate outcome?
  • Methods to evaluate progress?
  • Methods of production?

Statement of Intent

  • A formal statement that the author has a serious intention of doing something under specified conditions
  • An indication of what a person or persons is likely to do in the near future (informal)
  • Deadline- Thursday 15th October
