Design Brief 2 - Letter D

Prompt
The prompt for today is Handlettering
Ideas
Again I started in illustrator and for the hand-lettering prompt, I went straight into the different types of brushes within the program and started to play with different ones to show what sort of outcome they produced. I found that the brush I liked the most was a flat old school calligraphy pen, so I did some research into old calligraphy style letterforms. Then I started to sketch my own which is shown above. Doing it on the Ipad allowed me to edit the thickness of the pen, as well as the thickness, changed depending on my pressure which I applied to the screen. This allowed my letterforms to look more natural.
Development
After identifying which style I liked and reviewed on which letterforms were more successful. I started to refine my letters and produce very similar letters but each having something different.
After sketching out the letters again, I found that the letterform shown in the screenshot above was the most successful and will be the letterform I will take forward into my final design. This is because I liked how it all flowed together as well as I could see my natural hand writing in the letter.
After identifying which one was the most successful during the development stage I then brought it into illustrator again to clean up the letterform. As I found it to be a lot easier to do this on illustrator rather than on the iPad when doing the letter a.
