After the logo and colours palette for the brand was selected I then moved onto designing some basic business card for the brand. I looked at the previous business card and asked the client if all the information was necessary and he said some could be removed. The long necessary information on the business card was the logo as well as the numbers on the card. So I began the design stage by working with the traditional size and layout of a business card. I added the logo within the center of the card at scale where there was a good amount of negative shape surrounding the logo. I also incorporated the half coloured triangle in the design.

I then looked at the logo and saw that it would work better in the portrait format as the logo itself is skinny and tall. So I then tried implementing the design in a portrait format and I really liked the way this was going, however, I found that the designs on the red background didn't work that well but the white with the red triangle was really successsful.

Once I worked with the portrait business card I then cut it into the square and began to work within a square format. I was really liking the way these designs were coming out and the information sat on the card perfectly with the use of icons. I then showed all the designs to John and he said he didn't like the experimental formats of the business cards, he wanted a traditional landscape card. He also suggested adding the 'j.scurfield decorators' on the card to make it easier for people to see the brand.

After speaking to John I then went onto design the business cards above which included 'j.scurfield decorators' as well as the logo. I think these were the best business cards I designed and the information on the back worked the best on the landscape format.

Above are a mockup of what the business would look like if it were to be printed.
