Design Brief 3 - Label Design

After Identifying that we thought a brand refresh would work better than a full redesign I then moved onto designing the label for the tomato sauce. I took the original design and implemented our logo as well as our new same. This already gave the brand a refreshed feeling. I then looked at applying a handwritten typeface for the title of the product and I really liked how it looked. I also took the already existing imagery on the bottle and image traced it which left me with a sketched design of the photo which I really liked and thought it fit the concept perfectly. As it still kept the tomato on the bottle but giving it a newer look.

I then continued by exploring different layouts for the label. I found that I really liked how the type overflowed over the edge of the shape, it made the overall label more interesting.

I then took a step back and looked at how different typefaces would effect the design, so I gathered the most successful design so far and tried multiple different typefaces within the design. I liked a lot of them however the most successful ones were the original one I used as well as 'omnes' the typeface we used for the logo design.

I also found it hard when looking at including the '57' within my label design, so I had an idea of incorporating it into the design itself by replacing the tomato with a 57. Above Is the process I took to do this.

After producing the tomato with 57 inside it, I then moved onto experimenting with the 'varieties' type and tried it in different layouts. However, I found that the 'varieties' under the 57 worked the best as the other layouts made the balance off the label off.

I looked back at the design and I realised that the gold outer stroke didn't need to be there and I found that it made the design look more like a brand refresh.

After I was happy with the design I then copied the design and then edited the type to make it correct with other designs. I also took the existing style of image tracing the existing image on the label design and then applying it the design of the other three labels. I also incorporated the '57' within the design itself rather than it being separate. I also removed the 'varieties' as I found that the 57 brand was strong enough and it didn't need it.
